Metered Usage

We help you measure consumption on a per customer or tenant basis. In addition, our usage pricing module lets you structure and price your products based on actual customer consumption or reservation of units.

Measuring Usage

To implement metered usage you must first define a means for measuring your customers consumption via a recordable unit of a given usage type. For example some common units and usage types associated with cloud based products are megabytes of disk space, megabits per second of bandwidth, minutes of compute time, number of content views and number of clicks. For multi-tenant systems in particular, measuring consumption on a per customer or per tenant basis is important in implementing fair pay-as-you-go pricing. Metered Usage Pricing

Metered usage based pricing counts the actual number of units consumed for a given usage type within each billing cycle and calculates the customer fee based on a pre-established unit rate.

Metered UsageReservation Pricing

Reservation based pricing allocates a specific number of units for a particular customer, such as number of users or modules that the customer is paying for. The allocated amount for the given usage type stays the same month after month until specifically changed.

PriMetered
usage allows businesses to price and sell their products based on actual
consumption. Anything that can be measured can be metered and priced.

Most
of us are familiar with the meters on our homes and businesses that measure the
amount of water, electricity and other resources we consume each month. Those
meters allow local utility companies to bill based on our actual consumption,
and implement strategic pricing options to incentivize consumption.

To
implement metering businesses must identity the raw product asset they wish to
sell, along with a system for dividing the asset into uniform, recordable and
consumable blocks. Once the product asset and units have been determine, the
business can create strategic cost-per-unit pricing and scheduling. Some
Internet-based units commonly associated with metered usage are disc drive
space, band-width, minutes, page-views, clicks, and virtual currencies.
